The Bikes

The bikes which form the backbone of the citybyke cycle share solution are hand built in the UK. The bikes have been designed and built to a standard to meet the challenges of an urban cycle hire scheme. Focusing on ensuring the minimum of maintenance whilst delivering a well balanced enjoyable rider experience has been the key driver in the bike design.

Fairings are extensively used to ensure that there are no cables, bolts, nuts etc, exposed. This is critical to help ensure safety for riders and that there are as many bikes available for as many trips available at all times. The flexible, modular approach to delivering the fairing design allows the aesthetic of the bike to be amended to meet the needs of specific locations.

Electric bikes
Designed to help ensure that the citybyke solution is as inclusive as possible the electric version of the citybyke bike really helps to ensure "cycling for all". citybykes unique "electric ped-assist" version of the bikes helps with riding and gives assistance, this helps to encourage less able people into cycling.

Less able people can now join the cycling trend and not have to worry about challenging hills, head winds or daunting distances. The "ped-assist" electric version of the citybyke bikes offer a dynamic high quality solution.

The "ped-assist" bikes have a small electric motor and in frame high tech' battery packs which deliver an amount of powered assistance equivalent to having a second person on the bike assisting the rider. The docking stations have a Patent Pending design which enables these "ped-assist" bikes to be re-docked with the same simplicity as our traditional bikes. This unique system ensures that the bikes "dock - lock - and recharge" in one simple operation.

Integrated design
'The aesthetics' of the bike fairings, docking post and kiosk have been designed and developed by Hothouse. Their brief was to ensure that the member interaction was to be easy to use, sustainable, robust, and helped to meet the needs of the scheme and stakeholders. In addition, the "overall look" of the finished solution needed to be flexible enough to ensure a complimentary "fit" with the streetscape in which the solution was to be located.

Hothouse, an award winning London based design company also understood the importance that the citybyke solution should have innovation at its core, with unique features helping to ensure member safety.

Working closely with the citybyke team Hothouse also helped to deliver the all crucial interface / lock between the bike and the docking post. The many design challenges here have been superbly met by Hothouse, helping to ensure the use of the bikes is as inclusive as possible.
